The state of Florida has taken legal action against AI company OpenAI, citing concerns over public safety in the use of its ChatGPT product. According to an NBC report, this marks Florida as the first state to sue the AI giant and its CEO, Sam Altman, over these safety concerns.

The lawsuit vilifies Sam Altman and ChatGPT, accusing them of prioritizing the AI race and company profits over the safety of children and the broader public. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, quoted in a CNN report, criticized Altman's 'reckless and willful conduct,' alleging harm to Floridians and disregard for human safety.

Florida’s legal claims include accusations that OpenAI has fostered product dependencies among minors without proper oversight and implicated ChatGPT in assisting harmful acts like mass shootings and suicides. In response, OpenAI highlighted its safety initiatives designed for minors, including age prediction tools and parental controls.
