According to the latest forecast from market research firm IWSR, global alcohol consumption is anticipated to decline over the coming decade. Despite the rising demand in India, which is poised to overtake the U.S. as the second-largest alcohol market by 2032, major markets like China and the United States are expected to see significant drops in consumption.

The shift follows a post-pandemic boom where escalating living expenses, evolving consumer habits, and health concerns have notably dampened demand. Moreover, the rise of weight-loss drugs could further impact consumer drinking rates, altering the landscape for traditional alcohol goods.

IWSR President, Marten Lodewijks, emphasized the necessity for companies to adapt. As newer drinking preferences such as canned cocktails gain popularity, influential beverage labels are expected to lose market volume by 2035. While nations like Mexico, Vietnam, and Colombia see expanding demand, established markets may need to innovate for sustained relevance.
