A recent report by the Council on American Islamic Relations has revealed a 7.4% increase in discrimination against American Muslims and Arabs in 2024. The report attributes this rise to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, which has fueled heightened Islamophobia and led to significant protests on college campuses.
Most recorded complaints pertained to employment discrimination, immigration issues, and education bias. Additionally, a concerning rise in hate crimes has been noted, with prominent cases including violent incidents against Palestinian Americans across the United States.
The report underscores the tense atmosphere on college campuses, where demonstrations against U.S. support for Israel have prompted administrative backlash and police intervention. This has resulted in class cancellations, administrative resignations, and a crackdown on student protests, leading to concerns about free speech and human rights.
