The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is evaluating a proposal to allow basic non-programmable calculators in class 12 accountancy exams, according to board officials. The use of calculators aims to ease the cognitive load required for lengthy calculations, enhancing student focus on analytical responses.
A panel will be constituted to develop guidelines for calculator use, ensuring uniformity in exam conditions and preventing the use of advanced, programmable devices. This move aligns with the National Education Policy's emphasis on developing higher-order thinking skills among students.
In addition to the calculator initiative, CBSE is considering implementing an On-Screen Marking (OSM) system to expedite the evaluation process. This digital approach would involve scanning and uploading answer sheets for faster assessments, promising a more efficient examination process.
