On Tuesday, hundreds of students took to the streets of Delhi University's North Campus to demand the immediate implementation of the UGC Equity Regulations 2026. The demonstration, known as the 'Equity March,' was orchestrated by the All India Students' Association (AISA) and various other student groups.

The protesters, holding placards and vocalizing their concerns, pointed out that the recent judicial stay on these regulations has impeded a crucial effort to combat caste-based discrimination within higher education. They asserted that the regulations are essential safeguards designed to ensure accountability and uphold protections for students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.

Former JNUSU president Nitish addressed the passionate crowd, stating, "After years of relentless effort, we secured UGC regulations that emphasized accountability. This stay indicates casteism remains deeply rooted in our educational institutions. We won't rest until true equality prevails." The march concluded with a public meeting, reinforcing demands for enforceable guidelines under the 'Rohith Act.' Organizers warned against any dilution or delay in equity measures.
