Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary on Wednesday claimed that the establishment of government engineering and polytechnic colleges in the state has significantly checked outflow of students to other states and enhanced their employability. He was addressing a press conference organised by the Science, Technology and Technical Education department of the Bihar government here in Patna. ''Under the leadership of former chief minister Nitish Kumar, a game-changing policy was initiated under Saat Nishchay-1 (seven resolves) programme to establish engineering and polytechnic colleges in each district of Bihar. This helped students secure jobs within the state and enhanced their employability,'' said Choudhary, in charge of the department. He said that it is a matter of happiness that the new Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is working on the lines of Nitish Kumar. He said that, thus far, 38 government engineering colleges and 46 polytechnic colleges have been set up across all districts of Bihar. ''Under Saat Nischay-2 programme, many Centres of Excellence (CoEs) have been established in various educational institutions, which are helping make students employment-ready,'' Choudhary said. He claimed that students, including female students, from all regions of the state study in these CoEs, which is a ''marker of inclusive development.'' Health department secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh said that currently, the number of seats in government engineering colleges and polytechnic colleges stands at 14,553 and 17,243, respectively. ''Enrolment rates currently stand at 81 per cent in engineering and over 93 per cent in polytechnic colleges,'' he added. Citing placement data for the July 2025-March 2026 period, Singh said that 4,745 engineering and 10,501 polytechnic students got job offers, with some of them receiving packages ranging from Rs 20 to 30 lakhs per annum. ''Permanent teachers at these institutions have undergone specialised training at IITs to qualify for teaching advanced courses. They also had to pass an exam to prove their qualification for teaching specific subjects. In addition to the permanent teachers, an IIT team conducts online classes and handles third-party evaluations,'' he said. On-site trainers for teachers at CoEs provide instruction in modern, high-demand branches including computer science, civil engineering, AI, and IoT.
