Beijing's Central Axis, comprising former imperial palaces, gardens, and ceremonial structures, joined the UNESCO World Heritage List on Saturday.
During UNESCO's 46th session in New Delhi, the committee also included Japan's Sado Island Gold Mines and Russia's Cultural Landscape of Kenozero Lake.
The Central Axis reflects Beijing's historical evolution and urban planning traditions, originating during the Yuan Dynasty and further developed during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
The Japanese delegation celebrated the inclusion of Sado Island Gold Mines, noted for its unmechanized mining methods and unique geological formation.
Additional sites, including India's 'Moidams' and the Moravian Church Settlement by the US, were also added to the list.
