The Congress on Wednesday challenged the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for approving all acquisitions made by the Adani Group, alleging that such approvals have facilitated monopolies in key infrastructure sectors and resulted in higher prices for consumers.
Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, highlighted that the CCI has raised concerns over the potential anti-competitive impact of the proposed Reliance-Disney merger. He suggested that similar scrutiny should be applied to the Adani Group's acquisitions.
Ramesh alleged that the CCI has approved numerous acquisitions by the Adani Group, enabling it to dominate sectors such as ports, airports, power, and cement, despite these industries being susceptible to market failure and anti-competitive practices. The Congress also raised questions about regulatory institutions' handling of these transactions.
