Prominent figures of Malayalam cinema, including CPI(M) MLA K Mukesh and actors Jayasurya and Maniyanpilla Raju, have been booked for sexual assault. The incidents came to light following allegations from a female colleague, triggering political and social repercussions.
The Justice K Hema Committee report findings have also implicated other industry figures like Idavela Babu and Sidhique. Annie Raja, a senior CPI leader, has called for Mukesh to resign from his MLA position. The ruling CPI(M)-led LDF coalition, however, has so far backed Mukesh.
As the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probes the allegations, political parties, including the Congress, have intensified their demand for accountability. The state government has maintained it will follow due process, emphasizing its commitment to protecting women's rights in the film industry.
