The otherwise tranquil village of Konnur in Belagavi district has witnessed a surge of nationalistic fervor following the televised appearance of Colonel Sofia Qureshi, daughter-in-law of local resident Mohammed Ghaus Sab Bagewadi. Her briefing on 'Operation Sindoor' captured the nation's attention, as it marked a response to the Pahalgam terror incident.
Colonel Sofia Qureshi, married to Tajuddin Bagewadi and a trailblazer as the first Indian woman officer to lead a military contingent in the ASEAN ‘Force 18’ exercise, currently serves in Jammu. Her husband is stationed in Jhansi.
The Bagewadi residence experienced a festive atmosphere reminiscent of Eid, with a steady stream of visitors extending their congratulations. Local slogans of 'Hindustan Zindabad' and 'Jai Hind' echoed outside the home, with Ghaus Sab Bagewadi voicing disdain for the attack's perpetrators and calling for unity among the diverse communities in his area.
