A Grand Redevelopment: Janki Mandir's New Chapter in Bihar

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate a redevelopment project for the Janki Mandir in Bihar's Sitamarhi district, the legendary birthplace of Goddess Sita. Estimated at over Rs 882.87 crore, the project aims to enhance the temple's appeal with tourism and maintenance efforts. A nine-member trust oversees the initiative.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate the redevelopment project for Janki Mandir, a historic temple complex in Bihar's Sitamarhi district, recognized as the birthplace of Goddess Sita. The ceremony will see participation from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other prominent figures.

The ambitious project, valued at over Rs 882.87 crore, has received approval from the state cabinet. The development encompasses Rs 137 crore for the restoration of the existing temple and Rs 728 crore allocated for tourism enhancements, including infrastructure and visitor services. Additionally, Rs 16 crore is earmarked for maintenance over the next decade.

The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) will carry out the project, guided by a newly formed nine-member trust headed by the chief secretary. The redevelopment draws inspiration from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya, aiming to attract more pilgrims and boost the local economy.
