On the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will launch an expansive initiative to distribute one crore sarees to women across the state. This gesture aims at supporting women from economically weaker sections.
Dubbed the 'Indiramma Sarees' scheme, the sarees have been crafted by skilled handloom workers from Sircilla. The Chief Minister will initiate this large-scale distribution after paying tribute to Indira Gandhi at her statue on Necklace Road. An official statement outlined plans for a remote address to connect with rural women via video conferencing from the Secretariat.
The scheme's execution will occur in two phases to accommodate production timelines. By December 9, rural areas will receive sarees, aligned with Telangana Thalli Avatarana Dinotsavam, while urban distributions are scheduled from March 1 to March 8, coinciding with International Women's Day. Quality assurance and process transparency will be upheld with technological support, as instructed by the CM.
