On Saturday, the traditional Bagurumba dance will transform Guwahati's Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Stadium into a vibrant tapestry of culture, as more than 10,000 performers bring the Bodo community's heritage to life. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to witness this grand display, titled 'Bagurumba Dwhou 2026'.
This event commemorates Modi's second visit to Assam in under a month, with participation from approximately 8,000 dancers spanning 81 assembly constituencies across 23 districts. Final rehearsals were observed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday evening.
The Bagurumba dance, a cherished Bodo folk tradition, mirrors the natural world with movements reminiscent of butterflies and blooming flowers. It represents harmony, joy, and collective peace, showcased through dance and music by women, accompanied by men as musicians. The event will include songs in the Bodo language and traditional music, aiming to introduce this cultural gem to a global audience.
