In a significant message on International Women's Day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee emphasized the importance of dignity and security for women as indispensable to societal progress. Banerjee took to social media to highlight the success of several empowerment schemes tailored for women in the state.

One of the most notable initiatives, the 'Lakshmir Bhandar' scheme, now serves 2.41 crore women beneficiaries by providing them with a monthly allowance, increased to Rs 1,700 for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families. Additionally, the Swasthya Sathi health scheme has reached 2.42 crore women, offering smart cards to the female members of the household.

Remarkably, the Kanyashree scheme, which has benefitted almost one crore girl students, won international acclaim from UNESCO. Measures to bolster women's safety include 49 women police stations and the introduction of dedicated services such as Pink Booths and an all-women mobile service. Banerjee reiterated her stance that societal advancement hinges on the empowerment and safety of women.
