A historic moment unfolded in Nashik, Maharashtra, as the saffron Dharma Dhwaja was hoisted atop the Lord Kalaram temple after a 64-year hiatus. This significant event was graced by various dignitaries, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and former President Ram Nath Kovind.
The 11x5 feet saffron flag, crafted from special silk cloth, symbolizes devotion, bravery, and religion, featuring images of the Sun, Om, and Hanuman-Garud. The flag was raised on a 21-foot bronze pole, echoing a historical photograph captured by British photographer Francis Frith between 1865 and 1875.
This ceremony anticipates the forthcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, a major religious gathering scheduled to begin on October 31, 2026. The event will include rituals at Trimbakeshwar, Ramkund, and Panchvati, running until July 24, 2028.
