In a decisive move to protect its rich heritage and ecologically sensitive areas, the Goa government has announced the designation of substantial land areas around Old Goa and the St Cruz village as 'no development zones.'

This decision, encompassing 4 lakh square metres, bans construction and development, safeguarding orchards, salt pans, and mangroves under section 39(A) of the Town and Country Planning Act.

Speaking on the matter, State Town and Country Planning Minister Vishwajit Rane emphasized the importance of preserving these areas from urban overreach, ensuring that the rich cultural and environmental landscape of the coastal state remains intact for future generations.
