Goa Declares No-Development Zones to Protect Heritage and Eco-sensitive Areas
The Goa government has designated ecologically sensitive land around Old Goa and mangroves in St Cruz as 'no development zones'. This move, aimed at conservation, prevents construction in these areas, which include orchards, salt pans, and archaeological sites, to protect the region’s heritage and ecological integrity.

In a decisive move to protect its rich heritage and ecologically sensitive areas, the Goa government has announced the designation of substantial land areas around Old Goa and the St Cruz village as 'no development zones.'
This decision, encompassing 4 lakh square metres, bans construction and development, safeguarding orchards, salt pans, and mangroves under section 39(A) of the Town and Country Planning Act.
Speaking on the matter, State Town and Country Planning Minister Vishwajit Rane emphasized the importance of preserving these areas from urban overreach, ensuring that the rich cultural and environmental landscape of the coastal state remains intact for future generations.
