Jon Voight Joins Forces with Trump to Boost US Film Industry

In an effort to bolster film production within the United States, actor Jon Voight, backed by industry representatives, met with President Donald Trump earlier this year to advocate for federal tax credits. The previously undisclosed White House meeting took place on February 11.

Voight is among three special ambassadors to Hollywood appointed by Trump in January 2025. Alongside the Motion Picture Association and other industry coalitions, Voight cited a need to counter production moving overseas by proposing a 20% federal tax credit for domestic film and TV projects. The goal is to make U.S. production costs competitive against those in countries like Britain and Canada.

Amid declining domestic production, California has already increased its state tax incentives, resulting in a rise in shoot days in Los Angeles. Voight and his supporters hope federal incentives can further reclaim America's prominent role in global film and television production.
