Godrej Agrovet Acquires Full Control of Godrej Tyson Foods
Godrej Agrovet has acquired the remaining 49% stake in Godrej Tyson Foods from Tyson India Holdings. This move grants Godrej Agrovet complete control of the company, consolidating its business. The acquisition underscores the company's focus on expanding its presence in the processed poultry and frozen snacks markets.
Diversified food and agri-business conglomerate Godrej Agrovet (GAVL) announced on Thursday its agreement with Tyson India Holdings -- an affiliate of Tyson Foods Inc. -- to purchase the latter's 49 per cent stake in Godrej Tyson Foods Ltd (GTFL).
Upon the transaction's completion, GAVL will assume full ownership of GTFL, thereby consolidating its business, the company stated in a press release.
GAVL initially entered into a joint venture with Tyson Foods Inc.'s affiliate in 2008, aimed at manufacturing and marketing processed poultry and vegetarian products.
Besides marketing products under the 'Real Good Chicken' and 'Yummiez' brands, GTFL also sells live poultry birds.
GAVL Managing Director Balram Singh Yadav acknowledged the enriching nature of the partnership with Tyson Foods, noting that it enabled GAVL to modernize its poultry processing and product development operations. He observed that India's frozen snacks market has household penetration below 6%, presenting significant growth opportunities.
Yadav added that GAVL aims to bolster its portfolio and expand across various channels while maintaining a cost-efficient live bird production system.
Godrej Tyson Foods serves the B2C market through value-added products like Real Good Chicken and Yummiez, and supplies processed chicken to major hotel chains and quick service restaurants in the B2B space. The company operates in over 35 cities in India and has begun exporting Godrej Yummiez products internationally.
