In response to escalating political unrest in Bangladesh, the Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday put the India-Bangladesh border on high alert for the next 48 hours. BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary has arrived in Kolkata to oversee the situation closely.
A senior BSF officer confirmed that due to the situation in Bangladesh, a high alert has been issued to BSF frontiers along the India-Bangladesh border. Both North and South Bengal Frontiers have been instructed to intensify patrolling. An 'Ops alert' exercise is already in progress to ensure effective border control and management. Since July 18, the BSF has been facilitating the entry of Indian students.
Security has been ramped up along the 4,096-kilometer Indo-Bangladesh border to prevent infiltration or illegal entry. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned, and an interim government will now oversee the country's affairs, stated Chief of Army Staff General Waqar-uz-Zaman on Monday.
General Waqar-uz-Zaman announced that political transition is underway and promised that all crimes will be judged. He appealed for an end to nationwide violence and urged citizens to trust the Army. 'Maintain peace and order in the country. Let's work together. You trust me, avoid conflict. We have built a beautiful country together,' he said.
In response to queries from journalists, the Army Chief detailed that he had met with representatives from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jatiya Party, and Jamaat-e-Islami. Teachers Afis Nazrul and Jonayet Saki were also present at the meeting, according to reports in the Bangladeshi media. (ANI)
