The commerce ministry's branch, APEDA, has revised the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) regulations, making them more accessible to farmers while targeting a substantial export growth, reaching USD 2 billion by 2030, according to a government statement.
The updated NPOP standards align with international measures for organic product importation and exportation, ensuring broader acceptance overseas. Notably, the European Commission and Switzerland have recognized these standards as equivalent to their own, a significant nod towards India's organic product market access.
APEDA continues to facilitate global exposure of Indian organic goods, with significant participation in international fairs like 'BioFach' in Germany. This initiative, paired with a new traceability system, underscores India's rising stature in the organic export sector, registering a notable 40% rise in exports during the current fiscal year.
