Floods Disrupt Palm Oil Production: Industry Faces Tight Supply
Floods in Indonesia and Malaysia have tightened palm oil supplies, affecting production in the top producing countries. The industry faces challenges from adverse weather and aging trees. While the supply squeeze is expected in the short term, recovery is anticipated in the second half of the year.
Palm oil supplies are expected to remain tight over the next two to three months due to floods impacting production in major regions, according to a key industry executive.
Lee Oi Hian, the Executive Chairman of Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad, noted that the floods have particularly affected yields in key areas of Malaysia and Indonesia.
While the current situation poses challenges, efforts to mitigate long-term impacts are underway, as industry experts foresee a recovery in the latter half of the year.
