Tension Over Safety at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant Escalates
Ukraine has accused Russia of mishandling safety at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant after reports of a diesel spill. Both nations continue to blame each other for potential nuclear risks at the plant, with Ukraine insisting on regaining control to ensure its secure operation.
On Wednesday, Ukraine raised alarm over the safety management of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, under Russian control. The concern followed reports of a significant diesel spill, which Russia dismissed as 'fake' accusations.
Since Russian forces took over the plant during their 2022 invasion, both Moscow and Kyiv have repeatedly faced off over integrity and safety threats at the facility. Ukrainian spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi contended that Russia is failing at basic safety operations.
As Ukraine demands the return of the plant to its control, Russia insists on its ownership. Meanwhile, global attention grows as the management battle intensifies, with potential international intervention discussed but not agreed.
