The Greek parliament has greenlit the establishment of a committee to probe into a government agency embroiled in a scandal over EU agricultural subsidies. Greek farmers allegedly faked land ownership, defrauding the EU since at least 2019.

Two ex-agriculture ministers are under suspicion of involvement in the case, which European prosecutors brought to parliament's attention. The ruling New Democracy party, which controls parliament, faces declining popularity amid the controversy.

Opposition parties, however, demand a more robust investigative body, arguing the current plan stalls accountability and risks crimes being written off under statutes of limitations.
