Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister MK Stalin took decisive action on Tuesday, reviewing strategies to counter the heavy rains hitting several coastal districts, following intense downpour alerts from the regional weather office. The affected areas include Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and various Delta districts.

Stalin stated, "I led an advisory meeting today via video conference to discuss measures against the downpours in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and Delta districts." Emphasizing proactive governance, he highlighted efforts towards effective complaint management, continuous rice procurement, and precautionary steps. He assured that government representatives are working diligently to safeguard residents.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has issued orange and yellow alerts for several state areas, with meteorological systems over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea enhancing rainfall risks. Specific alerts cover coastal and Delta districts, including Ramanathapuram, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, and Puducherry, valid till Wednesday morning.

In the relentless downpour hitting Thoothukudi district, Minister for Social Welfare and Women's Rights, P. Geetha Jeevan, held a review meeting at the District Collector's office. She noted, "We conducted detailed discussions on preventive actions for disaster scenarios." She instructed government departments such as highways, electricity, medical, and public works to stay alert.

Emergency resources, including JCB machines and sandbags, are ready for quick deployment, along with prepared relief camps for public accommodation during emergencies. Revenue officers and municipal officials have been alerted to provide necessary assistance to residents, she added.
