Amid growing concerns over air safety, Airbus has faced a significant setback as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issues an airworthiness directive. The order, prompted by a software glitch in Airbus's systems, affects multiple models within the A320 fleet, as well as other variants.
Aviation expert Harshwardhan expressed relief that the problem was identified in time, averting possible disasters. He noted the seriousness of the glitch, which could compromise the aircraft's flight leveling systems, potentially leading to uncontrolled nosediving. Airbus is now reversing software updates to rectify the issue.
The grounding of the A320 fleet has caused flight disruptions worldwide, including in India. Approximately 6,000 aircraft could be affected. The DGCA's directive emphasizes compliance with mandatory modifications to ensure flight safety, after an A320 incident highlighted a risk related to solar radiation affecting critical flight control data.
