IndiGo Airlines has requested additional time to reply to a Show Cause Notice from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), issued December 6, following extensive disruptions affecting its national flight network. The airline, in a formal letter, asked for an extension to deliver a comprehensive response.

The DGCA's notice, addressed to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers, highlighted significant lapses in operational planning and resource management. New Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) are cited as the primary cause for the operational turmoil. The regulator also criticized IndiGo for inadequate passenger care during the disruptions.

IndiGo has been instructed to explain why enforcement action, as per Aircraft Rules, 1937, should not be pursued. Passenger refunds are being processed automatically, with a waiver on charges for changes between December 5 and 15. The airline targets operational normalcy by December 10 amidst continuing cancellations.
