Rajasthan Government Acts to Address Farmers' Protests Over Ethanol Plant

In response to escalating concerns among farmers, the Rajasthan state government has initiated measures to address objections surrounding an ethanol plant in Hanumangarh district. The Department of Forests, Environment, and Climate Change has established a five-member committee to investigate potential groundwater and environmental pollution stemming from the facility at Rathi Kheda Chak 5 R.K. village.
Headed by the Divisional Commissioner of Bikaner, the committee comprises key officials, including the Special Secretary and Member Secretary of the Department, the District Collector of Hanumangarh, and senior environmental and groundwater experts. This committee is tasked with delivering its findings to the Additional Chief Secretary of the department.
In a simultaneous clampdown to maintain discipline, Section 144 has been enforced across Hanumangarh district. This prohibits unauthorized gatherings and processions, with further implementation of Section 163 to ensure law and order. Restrictions include a ban on weapons, provocative speech, and misuse of religious sites, while social media activities are under surveillance.
