Dimple Yadav, a Member of Parliament from the Samajwadi Party, has sharply criticized the India-US trade deal announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, indicating a lapse in the Ministry of External Affairs' negotiation strategy. Yadav emphasized that the announcement should have been made by Indian authorities.
The trade agreement, which aims to reduce tariffs on Indian goods in the United States to 18 percent, has sparked further concern among party members. MP Ram Gopal Yadav expressed skepticism, suspecting hidden political agendas that might include arms deals or restrictions on oil imports from Russia.
While raising doubts about Trump's intentions, Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad acknowledged the economic relief provided by the deal. However, he cautioned that its success would largely depend on India's foreign policy. The agreement, publicized via Trump's platform Truth Social, points to possible restrictions on India's purchase of Russian oil.
