Empowering Mobility: Delhi's Sugamya Sahayak Scheme Brings Hope to Hundreds

The Delhi government's Sugamya Sahayak Scheme has significantly impacted the disabled community, offering life-changing assistive devices to over 400 beneficiaries this fiscal year. An official confirmed on Tuesday that around Rs 40 lakh has been allocated towards aids like wheelchairs, motorized tricycles, and Braille kits.
In its implementation, the Social Welfare Department organized 17 camps in 2025-26. This included assessment and distribution, effectively reaching 435 individuals with essential mobility aids. Looking ahead, 358 individuals have been assessed for future distribution.
The scheme targets residents with at least 40% disability and annual family incomes not exceeding Rs 8 lakh, aiming for greater accessibility and empowerment across the city. The initiative reflects rising awareness and the urgent need for accessible infrastructure.
