The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has ordered the Crime Branch, Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) to analyze CCTV footage from the Tirunelveli-Seevalaperi area, recorded on July 27, 2025. This is the day of the alleged honour killing of Kavin Selvaganesh, reportedly murdered by his girlfriend's brother, Surjith.
The court's decision came amidst petitions filed by K. Saravanan and K. Jayapal, who sought to dismiss the charges against them. Saravanan, father of the accused, argued that the prosecution failed to present crucial CCTV evidence that could demonstrate he did not aid Surjith's escape, as alleged.
Jayapal contended he was unaware of the incident until Surjith's arrival at the quarry, insisting there is no substantial evidence supporting claims of his involvement. The case raises significant questions about the handling of electronic evidence and justice delivery concerning Kavin's tragic death.
