BJP leaders on Thursday strongly criticized Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader MRK Panneerselvam for his alleged derogatory statements about North Indians, referring to them as "panipuri sellers" and "table cleaners." The remarks have sparked outrage, with BJP representatives condemning them as divisive and detrimental.
In a statement to ANI, BJP MP Darshan Singh Choudhary emphasized the negative impact of such comments on North India's prosperity and cultural unity. "This is a shameless and problematic statement," he asserted, warning against efforts that disrupt the Sanatani atmosphere of the region.
Offering a broader perspective, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal highlighted the importance of inclusiveness towards achieving 'Viksit Bharat 2047.' He insisted, "Every individual, whether a laborer, entrepreneur, or industrialist, plays a crucial role in India's economy, and their contributions must be valued." Meanwhile, Congress leader Udit Raj condemned Panneerselvam's comments but noted the South's industrial and technological lead. As Tamil Nadu heads into elections, DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi chaired the party's Election Manifesto Committee meeting, indicating ongoing alliance discussions with Congress. The Election Commission of India is yet to announce the election schedule.
