The Belgian government has renewed discussions with French utility giant Engie about the potential extension of the country's nuclear reactors, following a report by Belgian newspaper L'Echo.

Prime Minister Bart De Wever initially met with Engie, with further discussions planned involving Energy Minister Mathieu Bihet. Engie has yet to comment on these talks.

The main focus is on the reactors Doel 4 and Tihange 3, currently set to operate an additional decade according to prior arrangements, to possibly remain active for up to 20 more years. Operating since 1985, these reactors contribute significantly to Belgium's nuclear energy capacity.
