In the wake of rising tensions in the Indian Ocean, India has permitted three Iranian ships to dock at its ports, as confirmed by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. These approvals come shortly after the US Navy sunk an Iranian warship, raising regional tensions.
On March 4, the Iranian vessel IRIS LAVAN docked at Kochi, a fact revealed by Jaishankar during a Parliament session. This marks the first acknowledgement by a senior minister that Iran sought docking permissions in India. The Iranian foreign minister expressed gratitude, terming the move a humane gesture.
Amidst concerns over energy security due to the conflict, Jaishankar assured that the government is committed to maintaining stable energy supplies, considering the volatile international markets.
