In a show of political might, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma embarked on a rally from Veterinary College Field, Khanapara, to the Kamrup (Metro) District Commissioner's office in Guwahati. The rally marked the beginning of his campaign to file a nomination for the Jalukbari Assembly constituency amid fervent support from BJP loyalists.

Having first been elected in 2001, Sarma is a seasoned MLA from Jalukbari with a notable switch from Congress to the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2016. He seeks another term as Chief Minister, spearheading the BJP's efforts in the upcoming elections.

Amidst this, Congress has fortified its stance by forming an alliance with Raijor Dal, as announced by Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi and Raijor Dal's Akhil Gogoi. This coalition, along with several other parties, aims to challenge the BJP-led NDA coalition in the forthcoming assembly elections, with voting slated for April 9 and results on May 4.
