In a significant move related to the investigation of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, a Delhi court has instructed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to accelerate its efforts in filing a supplementary chargesheet against Tahawwur Hussain Rana. Rana is implicated in the broader conspiracy surrounding the attacks. The court has mandated that the chargesheet be finalized by May 2026, with the next hearing scheduled for April 24.
During the court proceedings, NIA representatives disclosed that they have procured essential voice samples of Rana, which are anticipated to be pivotal in supporting the evidence accumulated in the investigation. This development occurs amidst ongoing inquiries into the activities of Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistani origin, accused of facilitating David Coleman Headley's surveillance activities for the 2008 attacks planned by Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The investigation alleges that Rana established a front in Mumbai under the guise of an immigration consultancy, which was purportedly a cover for reconnaissance operations. The office reportedly had no legitimate business activity and was utilized to strategize the terror strikes that resulted in over 170 deaths. According to the NIA, Rana was part of a more extensive conspiracy dating to 2005, involving operatives from Pakistan aiming to commit acts of war against India.
