Hydration Revolution: The Surge of Bottled Water Market
Danone reports that increased health awareness in Britain and France is driving consumers away from sugary drinks towards bottled water, boosting sales of brands like Evian. The European bottled-water market saw significant growth. Busy lifestyles also contribute to this trend, with on-the-go consumption increasing.
Danone announced on Thursday that escalating health consciousness among consumers in Britain and France is catalyzing a shift from sugary beverages to bottled water, consequently propelling sales of the French consumer goods giant's brands, including Evian.
In recent years, food companies such as Nestle and Unilever have adjusted to this more health-focused consumer trend, further spurred by the introduction of GLP-1 weight loss medications across Europe and the United States.
Antoine Portmann, managing director of Danone Waters Europe, noted that Europe's bottled water market, valued at 18 billion euros ($21 billion), expanded by 5% in sales value and 3% in volume last year. He attributed this growth to increasing consumer awareness of healthy hydration.
Portmann also mentioned the role of hectic consumer lifestyles in boosting on-the-go water sales. To support this trend, Danone is investing 20 million euros to upgrade its Evian bottling facility and 8 million euros towards preserving other key sites.
