Centre Eases Wheat Procurement Norms for Punjab Amidst Weather Woes

The Indian government has relaxed wheat procurement norms in Punjab for the 2026-27 season due to damage from recent untimely rains. The Centre has adjusted wheat procurement norms for Punjab in response to recent adverse weather, aiming to mitigate the impact on farmers. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi confirmed this on Friday, citing field assessments.

Prominent changes include relaxing the lustre loss limit and increasing the allowance for shrivelled grains, addressing farmers' concerns following untimely rainfall.

The Punjab government, through Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, reported persistent efforts by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led to these concessions, easing the procurement burden for the state's agricultural community.
