In a significant verdict, the Supreme Court has refused to entertain a plea by the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) challenging the Calcutta High Court's decision. The plea questioned the exclusive deployment of Central government employees as voter counting supervisors during the West Bengal assembly election.

The refusal was celebrated by BJP leader Amit Malviya, who highlighted the decision as evidence that attempts to undermine the election's integrity will not be tolerated. He described the ruling as another judicial rebuff for Mamata Banerjee's party.

The hearing, conducted by a special Bench of Justices P.S. Narasimha and Joymalya Bagchi, reiterated the Election Commission of India's (ECI) assurance of deploying employees from both the Central and State governments, as well as Public Sector Undertakings, in the counting process scheduled from May 4.
