In a significant leadership change, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum revealed on Thursday that Pemex CEO Victor Rodriguez has resigned from his position, with the company's CFO, Juan Carlos Carpio, nominated to succeed him.
Rodriguez faced numerous challenges, including internal divisions, an oil spill, and unmet production targets, contributing to a $2.6 billion loss in the first quarter. Carpio, an economist trained at Mexico's National Autonomous University and closely associated with Energy Minister Luz Elena Gonzalez, expressed commitment to strengthening the state oil company.
In her video address, Sheinbaum acknowledged Rodriguez's tenure, highlighted the company's challenges under his leadership, and expressed confidence in Carpio's capability to lead. She assured continuity in Pemex management by retaining Rodriguez's team, as Sheinbaum personally undertook efforts to stabilize the company amid persistent challenges.
