The US is shifting its focus to Guyana's bauxite and other mineral resources amid global energy crises. US Under Secretary Jacob Helberg visited Guyana, highlighting its significance during the Iran-induced energy crisis. Tensions with China over resource control have further propelled US interest in Guyana.
The United States has turned its focus to Guyana's rich resources, including bauxite, as the Trump administration aims to enhance business prospects in Latin America. US Under Secretary for Economic Affairs, Jacob Helberg, visited Guyana for talks with officials, including President Irfaan Ali, in the wake of the country's burgeoning oil boom.
Guyana's vast oil reserves, discovered in the last decade, have amplified its status during the global energy crisis induced by the Iran war. The US administration is increasingly eyeing Latin American resources, with current efforts moving towards cooperation with Guyana and other nations.
Amid growing concerns about Chinese dominance in the region's resource sector, the US is exploring strategic partnerships. Helberg indicated potential US interest in Guyana's bauxite sector, already led by China's Bosai Minerals. Guyanese officials assured their openness to American investors in their resource-rich nation.
