In a tragic turn of events in the Kotranka sub-division of Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, one person died and seven others are currently undergoing treatment following a suspected food poisoning incident. The afflicted individuals, members of two families, reportedly consumed a wild vegetable known to have poisonous varieties for dinner on Friday night.
The incident occurred in Moda village, where eight people exhibited symptoms shortly after the meal. They were initially treated at the Community Health Centre (CHC) Kandi before being referred to the Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri for specialized care. The deceased, a 60-year-old man named Mohammad Hussain, succumbed during treatment, while the remaining patients, including six children, are now reported stable.
Principal GMC Rajouri, Dr. Amarjeet Singh Bhatia, confirmed the deteriorating condition of Hussain despite the medical team's exhaustive efforts. Speaking to ANI, he assured that medical teams have been dispatched to Modi village to prevent further panic and investigate potential cases. The wild vegetable, locally termed 'bund gary,' reportedly has both edible and toxic varieties, which led to symptoms akin to Dhatura poisoning.
