Vietnam's Energy Shift: First Djeno Crude Oil Shipment Signals Change

Vietnam's state-owned energy company, Petrovietnam, has marked a significant milestone by importing its first shipment of Djeno crude oil from the Republic of the Congo. This strategic move comes as a response to disruptions in crude oil supply from Kuwait, affecting the country's largest oil refinery operations.

The shipment of 950,000 barrels was successfully unloaded at the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical LLC last week. Historically sourcing crude oil predominantly from Kuwait, the refinery's operations were threatened by supply interruptions due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, compelling Vietnam to broaden its supplier base.

Petrovietnam emphasized the importance of diversifying crude oil inputs to bolster material self-sufficiency, stabilize refinery functionality, and secure the domestic petroleum market. With additional shipments expected, including one from Iraq, the company is actively pursuing tenders and spot procurement strategies to ensure continuous supply.
