Oil Supplies Facing Critical Depletion Amid Global Tensions
Fatih Birol, the head of the International Energy Agency, warns that global commercial oil inventories are quickly dwindling due to the Iran conflict and the Strait of Hormuz closure. He further highlighted that strategic oil reserves have been tapped, adding 2.5 million barrels per day, though they are finite.
Global oil supplies are facing severe depletion, warned Fatih Birol, head of the International Energy Agency. Speaking on Monday, Birol expressed concern over rapidly declining commercial oil inventories, attributing the situation to the ongoing Iran war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, leaving reserves with only weeks of supply.
Addressing the G7 summit in Paris, Birol mentioned that strategic oil reserves have been utilized, pushing an additional 2.5 million barrels of oil into the market daily. However, he cautioned, these reserves are limited and cannot sustain indefinite demand.
As tensions escalate, the international community faces mounting pressure to address this looming energy crisis. The reliance on strategic reserves highlights vulnerability in current energy infrastructures, fostering urgent discussions among global leaders.
