Panchayati Raj and Urban Local Bodies Elections: A Deep Dive into Himachal's Voter Turnout

The Panchayati Raj elections in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba commenced, with the first phase polling conducted across 676 wards. Concurrently, polls for 51 Urban Local Bodies across the state were held, showing varied voter turnout. Hamirpur led with 78.89% participation, but Solan lagged with 64.20%.

The first phase of the Panchayati Raj elections in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district began on Tuesday, witnessing extensive arrangements by the district administration to ensure a peaceful and fair polling process. According to official reports, the initial phase involves polling for 676 wards across 118 panchayats.

Conducted in three stages, the Chamba district polls will continue on May 28 and May 30. The administration has strategically deployed 3,813 employees across 319 panchayats to facilitate the electoral process. Eligible voters total 4,07,853, comprising 2,01,283 female voters and 2,06,570 male voters, officials confirmed.

In parallel, on May 17, Himachal Pradesh also witnessed voting for 51 Urban Local Bodies, including four major Municipal Corporations. Achieving an overall polling percentage of 69.16%, this year's turnout was slightly below the 72% recorded in the 2021 elections. State Chief Election Commissioner Anil Khachi reported a peaceful voting process without any notable issues.
