In Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir, sanitation workers have launched an intensified protest, demanding the regularization of their services, increased wages, and basic employment benefits. The strike, organized by the Chenab Valley Safai Karamchari Union, has seriously disrupted sanitation services, raising alarms over public health and hygiene concerns.
Irshad Ahmad, Chairman of the Chenab Valley Sanitation Workers and Union President of the Doda Committee, stated that these workers have been protesting for over a decade without their demands being met. 'Despite strikes since 2014 and multiple false assurances, nothing substantial has been accomplished,' Ahmad remarked, urging Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to address their grievances urgently.
Sanitation worker Azad Hussain expressed frustration over the longstanding neglect of their demands, emphasizing their desperation. He highlighted financial struggles, with many workers earning a meager Rs 9,000 monthly despite lengthy service. Hussain reiterated their call for regularization and warned that the protest might escalate if no action is taken.
