Kerala Assembly speaker M B Rajesh on Thursday urged the legislators to wear face masks properly inside the House, saying that it was not an issue of individual freedom but that of the safety of entire people in the wake of the COVID pandemic.

Saying that he was forced to remind the members repeatedly about the need to wear masks properly, the Speaker said it has become a practice for many prominent members nowadays to violate the directive in this regard.

''People are watching all these...Wearing a mask or not is not an issue of individual freedom but something that affects the health of entire people. Media is also pointing this out in a critical manner every day,'' he said amid the proceedings.

The Speaker also reminded that such deeds from the part of legislators would be viewed as ''irresponsible'' behaviour towards people.

During the previous session also Rajesh had reminded the members of the need to wear masks to protect themselves from the coronavirus infection.
