Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday appealed to citizens to make yoga a fixture in their daily routines.
During an event at Marine Drive marking the 10th International Day of Yoga, Shinde praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Baba Ramdev for their global promotion of yoga. “Citizens must make yoga an integral part of their daily lives. Everyone must practise it daily, and not just one day,” Shinde said.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and civic commissioner Bhushan Gagrani attended the event, which was organized by BJP leader Shaina NC. Later, Shinde addressed staff and bureaucrats at Mantralaya, performing yoga exercises alongside Fadnavis.
Shinde emphasized that daily yoga practice would increase efficiency among bureaucrats and other government employees, aiding in better public service. He stressed the importance of yoga for overall fitness and health.
In December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly, following a proposal by Prime Minister Modi, designated June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
