The Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) on Tuesday announced the end of its strike over the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, marking significant progress as the Union health minister agreed to their demands.
Despite FORDA's decision, medics at AIIMS, Indira Gandhi Hospital, and other associations, including FAIMA, declared their intent to continue the agitation until a central law is enacted to protect medical personnel from attacks. A delegation of FORDA met Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, concluding to end the strike in the interest of patient welfare.
FORDA highlighted in a statement that the minister had agreed to form a committee with their involvement to draft the Central Protection Act within 15 days. Meanwhile, AIIMS and other associations insist on continuing the strike until concrete measures are in place, with FAIMA confirming the continuation of their indefinite strike on Wednesday.
