The Union Health Ministry has unveiled detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) focused on the healthcare of transgender individuals, particularly for pre-hormonal therapy and gender reassignment surgery. According to the SOP, mental health professionals are mandated to assess and certify individuals before they proceed with medical treatments.

The SOP further instructs gynecologists to respect the preferred name and pronoun of transgender patients, upholding principles of safety, dignity, and respect. Mental health professionals are tasked with assessing gender incongruence and providing necessary certifications as per WHO guidelines.
