In a determined stance against food adulteration, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Jammu and Kashmir has carried out an impressive 13,944 inspections in 2025. This robust initiative has spurred case registrations, prosecutions, and financial penalties directed at companies flouting safety standards.

FDA Commissioner Smetha Sethi highlighted a remarkable performance, with over 10,620 samples collected against an annual target of 7,080. This represents a stark commitment to consumer safety, exceeding last year's figures by more than 150 per cent. Additionally, 1,423 risk-based inspections emphasized the agency's proactive approach.

The FDA's efforts also resulted in the issuance of 943 Improvement Notices to Food Business Operators under the Food Safety and Standards Act. Special drives led to prosecutions with significant penalties, supporting the agency's mission of ensuring safe food availability for all.
